Lately we have printed several projects for local vegan organisations based here in Scotland, so we thought it would be helpful to write a post with some information on the best options for vegan screen printing . We particularly love it when our customers use our more ethical options when possible, and here at IPS we have a wide range of organic and eco-friendly garments, as well as various inks to choose from. Here’s a closer look at some vegan projects we have done recently and how you can ensure your print job is as animal friendly as possible…
At IPS we can print with both plastisol and water based inks – both of which do not contain animal derived ingredients. Our plastisol inks are PVC-based and Phthalide-free and our water based inks are solvent free and Soil Association approved. A lot of people in search of vegan screen printing options tend to opt for water based inks, as these are generally believed to be the most environmentally friendly option. This is mostly due to the fact that solvents are required to clean plastisol inks, where as water-based inks can be cleaned using water.
This is true up to a point, but the cleaning process for water based inks can often also require the use of solvents, and the ink itself can also contain toxic chemicals depending on the brand you use. There are definitely good arguments for both inks, and one may be better than the other depending on the print job. Just give us a shout and we can discuss which is the most environmentally friendly option for your project!
Go Vegan Scotland
Go Vegan Scotland are a non-profit organisation set up to promote veganism in Scotland through positive advocacy, engagement & information sharing. Check out the new promotional t-shirts we just printed for them:These t-shirts feature the Go Vegan Scotland logo screen printed on the front, as well as their ‘Why Go Vegan? ASK ME!’ and web address on the back in white ink. Opting for a single colour variation of your logo is always a great way to keep costs of printing down.
These guys have also gone for a selection of different coloured t-shirts, which is a great way to inject colour and variation into any single colour design. These particular tees are EP01 Earth Positive Organic Unisex Tees and EP04 Earth Positive Ladies Slim Fit Tees.
You can find Go Vegan Scotland on Facebook here for info on all of their upcoming events and stalls.
Vegan High Five Club
Our newest vegan pals ‘Vegan High Five Club’ are an Edinburgh based independent brand for vegan gifts, accessories & apparel. They launched in September this year, and we’ve just finished printing off a limited run of their first ever screen printed merch. Check out the super cool totes below:These tote bags feature a single colour version of the Vegan High Five Club logo printed on the front in black ink.
Single colour prints on light coloured garments only require one layer of ink, meaning that the printing process is also as environmentally friendly as possible, using less power and resources to produce. These particular tote bags are Earth Positive EP70 Organic Shopper Bags, which are certified climate neutral and made from 100% organic cotton.
VHFC make super cool handmade gifts, such as their colourful vegan duct tape wallets, as well as fancy vegan accessories and apparel. Go give them a like on their Facebook page here. You can also have a look at all of their vegan products via their Etsy store here – buy all the things!
