When we’re not running around printing t-shirts, we quite like to play and watch roller derby, so we’re super excited for the 2016 WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs that kicked off last week. It’s really great to see a bunch of familiar faces there, and we are stoked to watch a few of our favourite customers take part. Rainy City Roller Derby are headed to the playoffs tournament in Columbia, South Carolina this weekend, and over the last year we’ve printed a tonne of ace new merch for them since they rebranded their league. These guys have executed some super effective screen printed merch so here’s a look at some of the prints we’ve done for them lately…
Rainy City had a massive re-brand and slight name change of their league earlier this year, making the switch from Rainy City Roller Girls to Rainy City Roller Derby, as well as designing a brand new logo and a fresh new look. Rebranding an entire roller derby league can be a huge amount of work, but if you do it well it can certainly be worth it.
Rainy City Roller Derby Logo T-shirts
The Rainy City rebrand involved creating new logo options for all possible contexts, with full colour & single colour versions, and guidelines for how it should look when displayed on black, white or coloured garments. There’s a really strong brand identity here, and the logo looks slick across all variations.
These two colour screen printed t-shirts look bold and sophisticated. Using the purple garment colour as part of the design means you get a 3 colour design while still only printing two colours. These particular tees are Gildan Softstyle – a really popular choice for cost-effective screen printed merch.
Rainy City Roller Derby Single Colour Vests
Full colour logo merch is always great, but a single colour version or variation of your team’s logo can also be really effective. Check out these vests with single colour variations of the Rainy City logo:
These vests with single colour print are super simple and super effective – the white ink stands out brilliantly against the purple and dark grey garments. Varying the design slightly as well as the garment colour is also a great way to keep the costs of printing down while still providing a varied selection of merch for your fans. The grey vests here are Anvil Ladies Tri-blend Racerback Tanks, and the purple vests are Sol’s Ladies Saint-Germain Slub Tanks.
Rainy City Roller Derby 2 Colour Totes & Tees
In terms of screen printed merch, keeping your designs to one or two print colours is the best way to ensure printing costs are as low as possible. The lower the price per unit, the more profit you’re making for your league on merch sales. Rainy City are a perfect example of how keeping your merch simple and on brand can look mega profesh.
Rainy City Roller Derby are based in Oldham, Manchester and are currently ranked #26 in the world. You can check them out via their Facebook page here to follow their current playoffs adventures.
Good luck pals!
