Interplanetary Print Syndicate are back! It’s been a busy start to the year in the studio. We got a coffee machine, and a new conveyor dryer – so we’ve definitely hit the ground running for the new year. December was a bit of a whirlwind of massive print jobs and many mulled ciders, so here’s a look at some great roller derby merch projects that we worked on towards the end of last year but were too busy to tell you about…

Granite City Roller Derby Merch

First up we have our friends from Aberdeen – Granite City Roller Derby. At the end of last year we did a big run of new merchandise featuring their ‘Northern Fights’ A team logo and also for the ‘Fight Hawks’ B team logo. We also printed a new variation of the classic Granite City league logo on charcoal Gildan Softstyle tees – check em’ out:Roller Derby MerchThese American sports style logo tee’s look super clean and bold. The Fight Hawks three colour logo print and the Northern Fights four colour design really stand out against the dark garments. The two colour Granite City Roller Derby logo tee is a great example of how effective it is to keep things simple.

Granite City are Aberdeen’s original women’s roller derby league – go check them out via their Facebook page here for all info on their upcoming games and events.

Team Scotland Roller Derby Merch

Next up we have Team Scotland Roller Derby – these guys are obviously pretty close to our hearts, but no favouritism here! So firstly, we designed their shiny new logo and it looks pretty damn cool, if we do say so ourselves. The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland, and it also just so happens to be magical and wonderful and mega queer.Roller Derby MerchAfter the re-design, we kitted the whole squad out with these slick black and white slashed armhole scrimmage vests. It’s hard to go wrong with monochrome prints, and sticking to using one colour of ink is the most cost effective way to make the most of your merch.

We also printed Team Scotland a bunch of merch, featuring the two colour logo, and supplied them with some all important patches.
Roller Derby MerchTeam Scotland Roller Derby are the national team that represent Scotland at the Roller Derby World Cup. Definitely go and give these guys a like on their Facebook page here, they’ve got a whole year of tough practice ahead of them for the 2018 Roller Derby World Cup in Manchester.

Team Sweden Roller Derby Merch

Saving the best for last here – Team Sweden Roller Derby sent us this pretty epic design and we printed it on black Bella & Canvas unisex vests. These bad boys feature a full colour simulated process screen print of the Northern Lights, and they turned out pretty damn great –Roller Derby MerchThis design was done as a 6 colour print using halftones. Halftone is the reprographic technique that simulates continuous tone imagery through the use of dots, varying either in size or in spacing, thus generating a gradient-like effect. There’s a white under base with a screen for blue, green, pink and yellow, and a highlight white on top. In contrast to simple one or two colour designs – this is an example of how effective it can be when you push the boundaries of screen printing. This print took a bit more preparation and thought than usual in terms of logistics, but simulated process screen printing opens up a whole new world of possibilities and colours. These vests are also pretty exclusive and only 50 were made in our first run, as far as we know they have sold out!

This was one of our favourite projects of 2016 – we love that these designs can open up doors for our creative process. Check out Team Sweden Roller Derby via their Facebook page here to follow their training for next year’s Roller Derby World Cup.
